This role is central to ensuring high-quality research and analysis underpin Amnesty's advocacy and communications, with a strong focus on justice, accountability, and systemic change.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape Amnesty's research agenda in the Americas, working collaboratively with national sections, civil society, and movements to expose human rights violations and advocate for meaningful change.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and coordinate research on human rights issues across the Americas, providing expert analysis, strategic insight, and well-evidenced recommendations.
  • Design and implement research methodologies that centre anti-racist, feminist, and intersectional approaches in partnership with survivors and affected communities.
  • Collect, verify, and assess information from a range of sources, including government officials, NGOs, journalists, and victims.
  • Produce timely, high-impact publications including reports, briefings, and statements, ensuring accuracy and clarity for a variety of audiences.
  • Work collaboratively with campaigners, media, and advocacy colleagues to integrate research into broader strategies for human rights impact.
  • Represent Amnesty International externally, including in media, civil society forums, and engagements with state and intergovernmental actors.
  • Ensure quality assurance and compliance with internal policies and frameworks.
  • Contribute to the planning, budgeting, and coordination of country and regional priorities in line with Amnesty's global strategy.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Substantial experience in human rights research or related work, with a proven ability to conduct field investigations and engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Deep knowledge of the Americas, including firsthand experience living or working in the region and a strong grasp of political, legal, social, and cultural dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply anti-racist, feminist, and intersectional principles in research and advocacy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English, including the ability to write for diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and priorities under pressure, while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Strong political judgment, strategic thinking, and capacity to analyse unfolding events and advise on organizational positioning.
  • Experience engaging sensitively with survivors of human rights violations and managing challenging interviews or fieldwork.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, multidisciplinary team across different locations and time zones.
